Finally the end of an era has arrived, after six whole years
of living in Cardiff, I am done, dusted and moved out. Whilst packing up our little flat was at
times heartbreaking, the home in which we have fed friends and hosted drinks,
listened to countless records, stressed over unending revision and found out
that baby boy existed, the next bit is going to be so exciting I cannot stay
sad for long. Plus packing up and
cleaning down a rented property with a stinking cold makes for a pretty epic
pity party, so I am not sorry that the actual move is over. In fact, once the landlord had come to go
over the inventory I pretty much sprinted to the car for a little nap whilst
James drove.
But I am going to miss Cardiff. Our last 24 hours in Miskin were equally
stressful and perfect; after the last scrubbing, defrosting, retting and
dusting had taken place, we ordered in noodles (it seemed fitting as it was the
first meal we ate moving into the house), watched a DVD (the internet had all
been disconnected) and slept in sleeping bags.
In the morning, at the crack of dawn we loaded up the car and went for
breakfast at the ‘American Diner’ (in Cardiff we assume that you Americans eat
nothing but pancakes, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast, washed down with
milkshakes – right)? Then we were on our
way for the next phase.
all the best for your new adventure in life. i just moved out too and haven't done the whole moving process thing. sometimes it seems like it's never gonna get done.
ReplyDeleteThank you - and to you too! Moving always feel so horrendous, but unpacking into a new home always makes up for it somewhat!
DeleteStrangely the last picture, the sign, made me feel the saddest...
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too x
DeleteHAHA I am crying that your 'american diner' served beans for breakfast! I've explained many times about the 'beans for breakfast' phenomenon in England, which Americans think is SOO WEIRD. Having lived in England for a bit I think it's pretty great. And tbh, we are definitely obsessed with pancakes, maple syrup, and bacon, although milkshakes are usually for lunch and dinner ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you get settled in well and I'm glad to see you back, (because err.. I didn't even realize you were back until now!)
Well, that has become my fact of the day - beans for breakfast is unAmerican! Who knew?! I can honestly say as a nation you are missing a trick...but the maple syrup somewhat makes up for that deficit!
DeleteThank you :)I am also very glad to be back, the last few months of dissertationing could not have been slower! xx
