Buy Nothing Day.

IMG_2874

Tomorrow (November 24th) is Buy Nothing Day.  It is a day to;

'challenge yourself, your family and friends to switch off from shopping and tune into life'.

Just a 24 hour detox.  You all know that everything we buy has an impact, so tomorrow think about that.  Like really think about it.  When you choose to buy cheap clothes that don't last, what does that really cost?  Mass produced meat?  Coffees from multinational giants?  Every thing has a price but not one that you necessarily pay.
I'm not naive, I know that one single day won't change the world, but it is a start.  Stay home, go out, make a mess, watch birds, do whatever you want, just think about how much is possible without it costing the earth.

Happy Buy Nothing Day!

  1. I think I would like to try this, but not tomorrow. I have some things I need to venture out for which I planned today!
    Lately I've been thinking a lot about mass produced fashion- the majority of my closet is Forever21, and I had been reading about how the fast-paced big box stores are having a huge impact on spending habits/death of smaller boutique labels. I've made a choice to try to transfer some of my spending habits to smaller brands/boutique labels because of this, and not purchase because the store has decided that summer needs to have three different fashion phases.
    I really want this book about the topic. I think I might have seen this on your blog before, haha

    1. I really like this comment. I think mass produced fashion is something I find really difficult to contend with, especially right now as I feel I 'need' a new winter coat! But this year I made the decision that I could only by 1 in 4 things from the high street, the rest have to be from independent brands, eBay or charity shops. It has been so hard to stick to sometimes, especially when you read posts by fashion bloggers and you covet everything they have on! But I feel much healthier because of it, I think feeling you need to buy new clothes is more a habit than anything else!
      Basically I think you are making a really good choice! I think it is so important to remember you are not just buying a top/coat but you are buying into the manufacturers ethos! xx

  2. Awesome idea. I'm not out shopping today (mostly because I'm poor) and I'm feeling pretty good about it.
