I am very lucky to come from such a hard working and innovative background. I know my mother will be reading this and despairing at me; thinking of the hundred pasta sauces she has to make whilst her partner generates Pappardelle and Fettucini by the mile, but I feel lucky. During her ongoing career my mother has been a potter (like my grandmother), a web designer (a pretty good one) a nurse and now a Pasta Baron of the South-West.
From my perspective, I have watched my mother start from the beginning multiple times and always create something worth being proud of. I have no false apprehensions; I'm fairly certain none of my mother's career choices have been easy - I have never met anyone who works as many hours but I think it proves that with hard work you can become anything you want to be.
Anyway, gushing rambling aside, I tagged along on one of their Christmas Markets. The weather surprisingly was perfect and there were hundreds of stalls selling artisan and handmade goods, never a bad way to spend a Sunday! This leads nicely into my current obsession - the Circus. Since reading Geek Love (one of the single most disturbing books I have ever read, consider with caution) my obsession with the Circus has grown exponentially. At the market I met this wonderful woman who creates the most magical, fairytale-esque jewelry, including, most handsome of all, the circus Strong Man. My wish list has become full of Circus related oddities - I love this print, I love Violet and Daisy - the conjoined twins (I'm sure directly lifted from Geek Love), Mark the illustrated man and these invitations (perhaps for a Birthday though instead of a babyshower).
So cool! I've been wanting to read "Geek Love".
